Hadley Wood Golf Club

The Benefits of ladies

membership

The Hadley Wood Ladies Section has been a cornerstone of our club with women contesting the first major competitions - the Walmer Cup and the Captain's Prize - in 1923, only a year after the club's founding. Today there are more than a dozen major competitions annually fielding women whether in singles, pairs or mixed gender formats.

The club has been blessed with strong Ladies captains such as esteemed individuals like Sue Barnes, Herta Taner and Judy Rennie leading the way with grace and excellence. In fact, Judy Rennie went on to become Hadley Wood's first female Club President in 2018, steering the club to new heights with her visionary leadership.

Our vibrant Ladies Section is a testament to the passion and diversity of our members, with a range of handicaps adding to the excitement on the course. While Tuesday is our dedicated playing day, we also offer Sunday competitions for those unable to join us midweek.

At the heart of our section lies the Ladies Academy, which boasts 35 members on a transformative, two-year journey towards full membership. Through a blend of individual and group lessons, and mentorship from established members, we cultivate not just golfing skills but a sense of belonging and camaraderie with our community.

Led by a dedicated Ladies Committee, we continuously strive to enhance the experiences and opportunities available to our members.

From our competitive Ladies Scratch Team (Hertfordshire Division) and our participation in county-level events - such as the Peason Trophy, where our team defeated all comers to represent Hertfordshire in the finals at Hindhead Golf Club this year! - to Ladies Friendlies and other external competitions, every member is offered the opportunity to represent the club at various handicap levels.

We celebrate every milestone achieved, whether it be handicap improvements or outright competition victories, with pride and honour. Many distinguishing mahogany boards, listing Ladies competition winners going back decades, grace the walls of our elegant Georgian clubhouse.

Beyond the fairways, we foster a vibrant social scene with a range of activities throughout the year. This includes external-speaker talks, bridge, a putting club and once-a-month Tuesday lunch for social and full members. This ensures that every member at Hadley Wood Golf Club finds a place to connect, learn and grow.

As the growth and development of women's golf accelerates with increased media visibility, we stand at the forefront of progress. Hadley Wood Golf Club is proud to be one of the first club signatories to the R&A's historic Women in Golf Charter, which is designed to encourage actions that enable more women and girls to flourish and maximise their potential within the golf industry at all levels.

Come join us at Hadley Wood Golf Club, where tradition meets innovation, and every swing propels us towards a brighter, more inclusive future for women in golf!
